| Linton Silver
The Linton Silver workshop was established in 1908 by James Walter Robert Linton, a British trained Painter and Teacher of Art. James was Joined soon afterwards by Mr Arthur Cross, a British trained Master Jeweller. Together they produced commissioned pieces of silverware and jewellery. Their work was marked with the initials JWRL & AC, and the sign of the Gumnut. The Gumnut is still impressed on every piece of Linton Silver to the present day.
Arthur Cross died in 1916. JWR carried on producing commissioned pieces until his son Jamie, JAB Linton, took over running the workshop in the early 1930’s. Jamie had previously trained as a Silversmith and Painter under his father, as well as studying sculpture in London and Paris in the second half on the 1920’s. It was Jamie who designed the cutlery lines that are still being handmade in the workshop today.
John was indentured to his father, Jamie, as a Silversmith and has since studied in Europe. John continues to make Linton Silver to the present day and has been joined by his daughter Beth who has opened Linton Studio in Bon Marche Arcade Perth to showcase Linton Silver alongside other West Australian silverware, jewellery and fine art.
